Winter Kita

It finally snowed last night. There's a lovely white glow through the kitchen windows now. I would be happy except I can clearly see my breath here as I type and eat my breakfast.

I'll be visitng my host family for New Years and then I'm off to Hong Kong in January. Xmas plans sorta fell through so looks like it might be Christmas in Toyama.

Were you able to find cheap fares to Hong Kong? I'm thinking of planning a trip although it's late, and if I could find cheap info that would be even better.

ah, nice; thanks for the travel agent info. i probably won't be flying anywhere for a while though because I don't want to spend that kind of money.

i should be in chiba at least for part of when you're here. i might be in kansai for a bit, but should be back before you leave. i live only about 30 min away from makuhari, so we can def meet up.

An Update

what? yes, an update. It's my first day as the new assistant for the Animation department at my school ;) As you can see, I am hard at work. I haven't been in much of a mood to update lately, as you may have noticed. I figured I at least owed it to those few who still bother to check up now and then to know what country I'm in and such other developments of consequence (check my flickr for more frequent life updates). First of all, I left Japan. After much research and deliberation I finally decided to bite the bullet and go back to school. This decision in itself took about a month. The winner: Academy of Arts University in San Francisco. The program: Master of Fine Arts in Animation and Visual Effects, with an intended focus in storyboarding. Down on the 4th

...and how's the weather everyone? It's rainy! I'm starting to forget what the sun looks like. Maybe that's what's getting me down, or maybe it's the other way around. Not that this is any different from what I endured for 4 years attending school in the northwest, but I had a lot more to occupy my time and mind then. The only plus side of Monsoon season is it keeps the temperature at a tolerable level. I was reminded the other day that today is Independence Day. But then that just made me think of the accident I got into last 4th of July. What an awful day. The year before that I spent the 4th on a beach in Japan, blowing up fireworks over the water and eating BBQ with the other students. It was raining that day too, but it didn't keep us from enjoying the party. Fun day. No plans this year seeing as any sound louder than a whistle will set the neighborhood mob after us. Winter Break Itinerary

Dec 24th-Dec 26th: KOBE (visiting yuki for xmas) Dec 27th-Dec 29th: Return to Toyama for work :\ Dec 30th-Jan 2nd: TOKYO/CHIBA (visiting host family for New Years) Jan 3rd-Jan 7th: HONG KONG (visiting Kim) Jan 7th: putz around tokyo for 9 hrs before my bus leaves for Toyama Jan 8th: back I've never been more in need of a vacation. Seems like every time there's a big American holiday my workload triples. On average I teach 24 classes a week- but normally I only have to plan lessons for the 8 elementary classes on Tues and Weds. This month my JTEs asked if I could plan all the lessons for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years at the junior high too. The lesson planning itself isn't that bad, but the actual teaching all day without any breaks is really draining (especially at the elementary schools.
